Starting February 21, 2026, seven young swimmers and kayakers will embark on an ambitious 150-kilometer journey across the Arabian Sea along Gujarat's coast. The expedition, organized by the Rajkot District Swimming Association as part of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv - 2026, is scheduled to conclude on March 2. The route will traverse various coastal spots, including Sutrapada and Mul Dwarka, demanding daily swims of 15 to 20 kilometers.
This challenge is more than just an endurance test; it's a mission to inspire youth to reduce screen time and embrace physical activities. Participants highlighted the psychological fortitude required for open-water swimming, facing unpredictable conditions and the vastness of the sea. Preparations have involved extensive pool training and weekend open-water sessions to build stamina and adaptability.
Accompanying the swimmers will be four kayakers and three support boats, ensuring supplies and safety. The event prioritizes thorough safety measures, with expert guidance on sea conditions and tidal patterns. Beyond the swim, the expedition incorporates impactful initiatives like underwater sea-cleaning drives, cancer awareness campaigns in coastal villages, and beach safety programs.
