A chance discovery in a Dubbak Shaiva shrine has revealed a previously unknown Bhairava mantra peetham in Telangana. Heritage enthusiasts identified a Yogabhairava-Kalika sculpture, which had long been worshipped by villagers but was misidentified due to its iconographic features.
Experts confirmed the sculpture's details, noting Bhairava in sukhasana pose with specific attributes and the goddess Kalika. This find is the third Bhairava mantra peetham identified in Telangana, with historical ties to the Kalamukha tradition influential between the 9th and 13th centuries. Previously known peethams include Chanda Bhairava at Edulabad and Svachchhanda Bhairava seats at Indresham. Researchers suggest a fourth peetham in the state remains to be explored.
