Saudi Arabia Hosts Global Space Debris Summit

The second edition of the Space Debris 2026 Conference, organized by the Saudi Space Agency (SSA), has begun with significant international participation from 75 countries.
This pivotal event, supported by the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), underscores global efforts to manage escalating space debris.
SSA Acting CEO Dr. Mohammed Al Tamimi emphasized the Kingdom's dedication to tackling orbital challenges, noting the growing risks to space activities from increasing debris.
UNOOSA Director Aarti Holla-Maini stressed the necessity of comprehensive global cooperation, calling on spacefaring nations to lead by example in addressing legacy debris.
Thomas Lamanauskas of the ITU highlighted the importance of responsible and inclusive management of space resources for current and future generations.
The conference aims to raise awareness about space debris risks, foster policy discussions, promote innovation, and develop governance frameworks for sustainable orbital use.
Specialized sessions will cover space sustainability, governance, and technical challenges, alongside an exhibition of 20 innovative projects from the DebrisSolver Competition.
