Russian Cargo Freighter Undocks from ISS, Begins Fiery Re-entry

Summary
- Progress MS-30 cargo ship undocks from ISS on September 9, 2025
- Spacecraft to burn up in Earth's atmosphere, with non-combustible parts splashing down in Pacific
- Next Progress MS-32 cargo ship scheduled to launch on September 11, 2025

As of September 9, 2025, the Russian Progress MS-30 cargo spacecraft has undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) and begun its descent back to Earth. The freighter, which arrived at the ISS on March 3, 2025, delivered nearly 2.6 metric tons of supplies, including equipment, clothing, food, and a new spacesuit for spacewalks.
Now, the Progress MS-30 has switched to autonomous flight mode and is using its thrusters to slow its descent from the ISS orbit. The spacecraft is expected to enter the Earth's atmosphere around 6:59 p.m. GMT, with most of it burning up in the dense layers. Any non-combustible parts will splash down in the uninhabited South Pacific Ocean.
The departure of the Progress MS-30 frees up a docking port on the ISS for the next cargo resupply mission. The Progress MS-32 spacecraft is already being prepared for launch at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. It is scheduled to lift off on a Soyuz-2.1 rocket on September 11, 2025, and is expected to dock with the space station two days later on September 13.
