Rare 82-Minute Blood Moon Eclipse Graces Skies This Weekend
6 Sep
Summary
- Total lunar eclipse to turn moon blood red for over an hour
- Visible across Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia on September 7-8
- Coincides with the Corn Moon, a bright full moon signaling the harvest

On the night of September 7-8, 2025, stargazers around the world will witness a spectacular total lunar eclipse that will turn the moon a deep, blood-red color for over an hour. The eclipse will occur as Earth drifts directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its vast shadow across the lunar disk.
The event will be visible in its entirety across large swaths of Asia, Africa, eastern Europe, and western Australia. Other regions, including Spain and Norway, will see only a partial eclipse. Meanwhile, in North and South America, a bright full 'Corn Moon' will light up the skies, providing extra illumination for the harvest season.
The Corn Moon, which earns its nickname because it coincides with the annual corn harvest, will peak at the same time as the lunar eclipse. While those outside the blood moon viewing zone won't be able to see the eclipse, they can still admire the Corn Moon all weekend and into Monday.
