The findings revealed that individuals with higher nighttime light exposure exhibited increased heart muscle mass and thicker heart walls, indicators that can precede cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, signs of impaired heart function were observed in both the left and right sides of the heart. Researchers propose that disrupted sleep duration and quality, stemming from interference with the body's natural 24-hour circadian rhythm, are key mechanisms behind these adverse cardiac effects.
Experts emphasize the importance of reducing light exposure in bedrooms for better cardiovascular well-being. If complete darkness is not achievable, blocking blue light wavelengths that interfere with sleep and circadian rhythms is suggested as an alternative. Morning activities like light exposure, a substantial breakfast, and physical activity can help resynchronize internal body clocks.
