NASA Grounded as US Government Shutdown Drags On

As of October 7th, 2025, the US government shutdown that began six days ago has significantly impacted NASA's operations. Thousands of NASA employees have been furloughed, with only a core group of "excepted" personnel remaining on duty to maintain the safety of astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and ensure critical systems and international coordination efforts continue uninterrupted.

While essential functions like 24/7 monitoring and management of the ISS are ongoing, the broader freeze on NASA's activities has raised concerns over the continuity of crucial space programs.
