Summary
- Interstellar object 3I/ATLAS survives close solar flyby intact, defying comet behavior
- Object displays mysterious "anti-tail" and two massive jets, challenging natural explanations
- Harvard professor Avi Loeb suggests 3I/ATLAS could be an "alien mothership" maneuvering the sun

On November 13, 2025, the interstellar object known as 3I/ATLAS continues to baffle astronomers with its bizarre behavior, sparking renewed speculation that it could be an extraterrestrial spacecraft rather than a natural comet.
In late October, 3I/ATLAS made a close flyby of the Sun, an event that should have shattered a typical comet. However, the object emerged completely intact, a highly unusual occurrence. This has lent credence to the theory proposed by Harvard professor Avi Loeb that 3I/ATLAS may be an "alien mothership" maneuvering around the Sun.
Further evidence supporting Loeb's hypothesis has emerged in the form of 3I/ATLAS' mysterious "anti-tail" and two massive jets shooting out from its surface. Comets typically develop a tail of dust and debris behind them, but 3I/ATLAS' anti-tail points the material toward the Sun, defying scientific explanation. Additionally, the object is ejecting two enormous jets, one toward the Sun and another three times as long pointing away, which cannot be naturally explained by the vaporization of ice.
Astronomers have maintained since 3I/ATLAS' discovery in July that it is a comet from a distant solar system, with an unusual chemical composition. However, the scale and nature of the object's anomalies have led Loeb and others to argue that a technological origin is a more plausible explanation. As 3I/ATLAS continues its journey through our solar system, the debate over its true nature is sure to intensify in the coming weeks.
