An interstellar object, designated 3I/ATLAS, is drawing nearer to Earth, with scientists noting its proximity has recently surpassed the 300 million kilometer mark. This celestial visitor is expected to continue approaching, gaining an estimated two million kilometers each day. Its current trajectory is primarily influenced by Earth's orbital motion, directing it towards our planet.
Remarkably, despite its approach towards Earth, 3I/ATLAS is already on a path that will take it out of our solar system. This dual motion—approaching Earth while leaving the Sun's influence—makes it a unique astronomical subject. It marks the third such interstellar body discovered, following Oumuamua and 2I/Borisov.
The closest approach to Earth is anticipated in December 2025, at a distance of approximately 269 million kilometers. After this point, the object and our planet will begin to move apart. Scientists have assured the public that the comet presents no danger to Earth.
