CSIR-NIIST in Thiruvananthapuram is set to launch a groundbreaking high-protein, low-glycemic index rice fortified with vital micronutrients. The technology behind this enhanced rice will be transferred to TATA Consumer Products Limited and SS Soul Foods during a 'CSIR-NIIST Tech Connect' event in New Delhi. This transfer aims to facilitate the commercialization of the product, making its benefits accessible to a wider population.
CSIR-NIIST's innovation improves protein content and moderates carbohydrate digestibility, contributing to better blood glucose management. It also incorporates essential nutrients like iron, folic acid, and vitamin B12 to combat 'hidden hunger'.
In addition to the designer rice, CSIR-NIIST will also transfer technologies for indigenous coffee crema, rapid aerobic composting ('Jaivam'), and plant-based leather alternatives at the event, underscoring its commitment to diverse sectors.
