Glass Animals admit to Artemis II toilet trouble
10 Apr
Summary
- Band joked they caused Artemis II toilet issues during a visit.
- Lead singer lost a vial of tears in the space capsule.
- Astronauts listened to the band's song during their mission.

The band Glass Animals has lightheartedly suggested they may be responsible for the toilet issues experienced on the Artemis II mission. The musicians visited NASA's Kennedy Space Center two years prior, where they sat inside the Orion space capsule. During this visit, lead singer Dave Bayley reportedly lost a vial of tears, intended as a promotional item for their single "A Tear in Space," within the capsule without informing NASA officials.
Despite the band's jest about causing the lavatory malfunctions, the Artemis II astronauts appeared to take it in good spirits. On their seventh day in space, the crew was heard listening to Glass Animals' 2019 collaboration "Tokyo Drifting." The band expressed their delight on Instagram, calling the astronauts inspiring and playfully acknowledging the toilet situation.
The Artemis II mission, which launched on April 1, 2026, involved four astronauts traveling further from Earth than any humans previously. While the crew encountered some intermittent toilet issues, these did not overshadow their historic lunar fly-by. The mission concluded its journey around the Moon on Tuesday, with splashdown expected off the coast of San Diego on Friday, April 10, 2026.
