Stargazers Prepare for Dazzling Leonids Meteor Shower in November 2025

The Leonids meteor shower, one of the more reliable celestial events, is set to peak on the night of 16-17 November 2025. Stargazers in the northern hemisphere are in for a treat, as they can expect to see around 10-15 bright meteors per hour during the shower's peak.

The Leonids meteors take their name from the constellation Leo, the lion, and appear to emanate from the region of the "lion's head", an asterism known as the sickle. These fast-moving particles, once part of the tail of comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, enter Earth's atmosphere at a blistering speed of 70 km/s, leaving behind straight, bright trails that linger in the air.

While the Leonids are capable of producing spectacular meteor storms, with rates in the hundreds or thousands per hour, there is no prediction of such an outburst in 2025. Stargazers are advised to wrap up warm, grab a deck chair, and be patient as they wait to witness this celestial display in the early hours of the morning when the night is at its darkest.
