15 May
Summary
- Scientists will explore the unique canyon-type Sotka River.
- Expedition includes studying karst caves and hydrology.
- Civil science volunteers invited to contribute to research.

A scientific expedition is scheduled to begin in late May along the Sotka River, located within the Pinezhsky Nature Reserve in the Arkhangelsk Region. This unique river, distinguished as the only canyon-type river in the region, will be the subject of extensive research. Cosmonaut Ivan Vagner is set to participate in the expedition.
The scientific project, titled 'North - the Territory of Discoveries,' will involve a team from the Russian Arctic National Park, speleologists, and various institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Their research will encompass the study of karst caves adjacent to the river and detailed hydrology investigations. This initiative also aims to foster civil science, inviting volunteers interested in contributing to the study of Russia's natural environment.
The expedition, which will proceed by kayak, is expected to last about a week. The Sotka River spans 40 km within the protected area, with late May and late September to early October identified as the optimal periods for exploration. The comprehensive studies are intended to provide critical insights into the ecosystem conditions of this exceptionally beautiful and secluded river.
