A three-day meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Ocean and Polar Science and Technology (OPST) commenced recently, bringing together delegates from 11 member nations in Panaji. While oceans are vital to all BRICS members, not all possess extensive expertise in polar regions or deep-sea exploration.
The meeting also underscored the necessity of sustainable marine exploration, particularly in light of economic activities related to the blue economy. Concerns were raised regarding marine pollution, rising ocean temperatures, sea-level rise, and ocean acidification, emphasizing the need to protect these critical environments.
