Biohub Unlocks Protein Secrets for Drug Discovery
3 Jun
Summary
- Biohub launched a protein biology world model using evolutionary scale modeling.
- The AI models can design new proteins for cancer and immune targets.
- The models are open-source and accessible via multiple platforms.

Biohub, a philanthropic venture founded by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Dr. Priscilla Chan, has introduced a groundbreaking world model of protein biology. Launched on Wednesday, this initiative leverages the fourth generation of evolutionary scale modeling (ESM) to decipher protein sequences and accelerate drug discovery.
This advanced AI model has demonstrated its capability by validating predictions in immune diseases and cancer. Researchers utilized these open-source AI models to design novel protein binders, effectively reactivating immune cells in laboratory experiments targeting cancer and immune-related conditions.
The Biohub world model is accessible through its biohub.ai platform, offering compute credits to researchers. Additionally, it will be available on platforms like AWS Bio Discovery and SandboxAQ, fostering collaboration. This effort is part of Biohub's broader mission to advance biomedical research, a commitment bolstered by the acquisition of AI-biology startup EvolutionaryScale in late 2025.
