Summary
- Illustrations bring 512-million-year-old fossils to life.
- Vibrant depictions feature ancient sea creatures.
- Australia Post transforms art into new stamp series.

Vibrant illustrations by Peter Trusler are now bringing 512-million-year-old fossils from Kangaroo Island to life. These detailed artworks, based on the latest research, have inspired a new stamp series from Australia Post called "Creatures of the Palaeozoic."
The Palaeozoic era, part of the Cambrian explosion, saw the rapid evolution of most major animal groups. The Emu Bay Shale deposit on Kangaroo Island is uniquely significant as it preserves delicate, non-mineralized external skeletons and some soft tissues.
Dr. Trusler collaborated with scientists like Diego Garcia-Bellido and Professor John Paterson. The stamps feature fascinating creatures, including Nesonektris aldridgei, the Emu Bay Shale monster, Anomalocaris daleyae, and the large trilobite Redlichia rex.
