Ancient Dog Buried With Dagger Stuns Archaeologists

An astonishing discovery near Järna, Sweden, has revealed a remarkably well-preserved skeleton of a large, powerful male dog. This canine was laid to rest around 5,000 years ago, a rare find from the early Neolithic period. The dog's remains were found alongside a finely polished bone dagger, approximately 10 inches long.

Archaeologists suggest the dog was deliberately deposited into a lake that once covered the site, possibly placed in a container with stones. The excellent preservation is attributed to the waterlogged conditions of the bog. This excavation, conducted ahead of railway construction, has provided unique insights into ancient rituals and dog burials, which are exceptionally rare from this time.
