AI Drug Reverses Biological Clock Years
10 Sep
Summary
- Experimental drug rentosertib appears to reverse biological age.
- AI developed drug showed anti-aging qualities in a small study.
- More research needed before an anti-aging pill is ready.

An experimental drug named rentosertib, initially developed for pulmonary fibrosis, has demonstrated potential anti-aging properties. A recent study, published on September 7, 2026, in Nature Biotechnology, indicated that the drug may reverse biological age by several years.
The research involved analyzing blood samples from 42 patients with pulmonary fibrosis who received rentosertib. Utilizing six different "aging clocks," scientists measured molecular proteins to assess biological age and mortality risk. The findings consistently suggested a reduced biological age among those treated with the drug.
Insilico's founder, Alex Zhavoronkov, stated that the drug could reduce biological age by three to six years. However, he acknowledged that extensive research is still required before such a drug could be considered for general use, noting the absence of any known drug that can extend the life of already optimized individuals.
Experts emphasize that the drug's effects on healthy individuals remain unknown, as it has only been tested in patients with a specific lung condition. Further studies are necessary to determine its applicability and safety in a broader population, including healthy individuals of diverse ages.
