Zac Efron Builds Hemp Home in Rainforest

Actor Zac Efron is developing an off-grid home, dubbed "FutureCave," nestled on 128 hectares of rainforest near the border of New South Wales and Queensland, Australia. This ambitious project, which has been in progress for six years, centers on self-reliance and materials that reduce environmental impact.

The construction prominently features industrial hemp, with hempcrete utilized for walls and insulation, contributing to the home's breathability and fire resistance. The design, overseen by environmental designer Joost Bakker, incorporates locally sourced hemp for various interior finishes and approximately 2,200 lime-free hempcrete blocks. The retreat will include six bedroom pods, private bathrooms, and rooftop gardens, creating a close connection with the natural surroundings.

This sustainable building approach aims to enhance comfort through natural humidity management and offer greater security during potential power outages, while also reducing long-term energy expenses. The use of hempcrete is highlighted for its environmental benefits and potential for energy savings, aligning with a growing trend of high-profile projects adopting eco-friendly materials.
