Jemma Maddock, from Tunbridge Wells, is preparing for a challenging firewalk to honour her late mother, Julie, who passed away six months ago from a brain tumour. The challenge is a way for Jemma and her family to express their deep appreciation for the exceptional support they received from Hospice in the Weald during Julie's illness.
Recalling her mother as a special, outgoing, and fun-loving individual who rarely complained even when ill, Jemma finds motivation in the hospice's crucial role for both patients and families. She noted that sending her mother to the hospice initially seemed daunting, but the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming.
The hospice provided care for two and a half weeks, culminating in a poignant moment where Jemma, her father Peter, and sister Tara were together with nurses as Julie passed. The firewalk event is set to take place on March 14th at The Camden Arms in Pembury. Lisa Browning, relationship fundraising manager at Hospice in the Weald, expressed excitement for the new event and gratitude for early sign-ups.
