A woman who alleged discrimination by a luxury wellness retreat for her severe depression has been accused by the establishment of abusive behavior towards staff and guests. Cassandra Boswell sought over $20,000 in damages after her stay at Elysia Wellness Retreat in Pokolbin, NSW, was cut short in early January 2024. The retreat's management detailed multiple incidents involving Ms. Boswell's dog, Bella, such as urinating and vomiting in common areas, and Ms. Boswell's aggressive reactions to guest complaints.
Further allegations against Ms. Boswell include throwing a urine-soaked rag at a guest, using obscene language, and making homophobic slurs towards a staff member. These actions, management stated, led to the demand for her immediate departure on January 3, 2024. Ms. Boswell claimed she had to hitchhike to Newcastle Airport to return home. The retreat, a popular destination for celebrities, refuted her discrimination claims, attributing her expulsion to unacceptable conduct. The Federal Circuit Court of Australia dismissed Ms. Boswell's case, as her complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission was lodged 40 days after the stipulated deadline.
