On October 15, 2025, Dallin H. Oaks, the senior-most member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, was named the 18th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Oaks, 93, will lead the First Presidency, the Church's highest governing body, with President Henry B. Eyring and President D. Todd Christofferson serving as his counselors.
In addition to the changes in the First Presidency, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland was also appointed as the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Oaks expressed his gratitude for the men who have accepted these "sacred callings" and pledged to commit his "whole heart and soul" to serving as the President of the Church.
The previous First Presidency, led by President Russell M. Nelson, was dissolved following Nelson's passing on September 27, 2025. Nelson had served as the Church's 17th president and prophet since 2018. Oaks now takes on the responsibility of guiding the Church and fulfilling the challenges set forth by his predecessor.
