Summary
- New Hampshire distillery launches venison-flavored whiskey.
- Whiskey is slow-smoked over boreal forest branches for flavor.
- Available in 'buck'-sized and 'Bambi' bottles starting September 15.

Tamworth Distilling in New Hampshire has introduced a distinctive venison-flavored whiskey named Deerslayer. This unique spirit is created using hand-chopped red deer meat, combined with ingredients like cranberries and porcini mushrooms.
The venison is fermented overnight to enhance its gaminess, then slow-smoked over boreal forest branches. Distiller Matt Power described the flavor profile as aiming to evoke the New England woods in the fall, with juniper, peppercorn, and cranberry notes complementing the rye backbone.
Launching to coincide with New Hampshire's hunting season, Deerslayer became available on Tuesday, September 15. It is offered in 500ml "buck"-sized bottles for $45 and 200ml "Bambi" bottles for $35. Initially an experimental product, it has now become a permanent offering.
Founder Steven Grasse highlighted Deerslayer as a blueprint for the distillery's "weird whiskies" and their willingness to innovate. Tamworth Distilling is also known for other experimental spirits, such as Skeeter's whiskey with a nootkatone flavor derived from natural bug repellent.
