A vibrant group of over 20 campaigners will tackle the Cambridge Half Marathon, donning vegetable costumes to support the mental health charity Cultivating Change. This initiative aims to foster community engagement through gardening. Last year, five runners participated, but this year's event features a significantly larger team.
Vicky Knight, dressed as a pea, is striving to break the current world record of one hour, 46 minutes and 51 seconds for a female half marathoner in a vegetable costume. The charity, co-founded by Sally Nye, has extended its reach to communities and schools across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, and Suffolk, positively impacting pupils' well-being.
Cultivating Change has notably worked with Castle School, a special educational needs and disability school in Cambridge. The program has demonstrated a positive effect on pupil well-being and even provides produce for school lessons. Organizers have advised attendees to plan journeys in advance due to traffic measures in the city.
