As of October 27, 2025, the Tiruchendur Subramania Swamy Temple in Tamil Nadu is experiencing a significant influx of devotees as the town prepares for the renowned Kanda Sashti festival. The temple is the second of Lord Murugan's six sacred abodes and is globally renowned for the Soorasamharam, the most significant event of the festival.
Lakhs of devotees from across Tamil Nadu and other states have traveled to Tiruchendur to participate in the festivities, which began on October 22 with the Yagasalai Pooja. The much-awaited "Soorasamharam" ritual, a reenactment of Lord Murugan's victory over the demon Soorapadman, was held on the previous Sunday. This visually spectacular event is marked by a grand procession where a large effigy of the demon is carried through the streets before being set ablaze, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
Ahead of the Soorasamharam, elaborate security arrangements were put in place, with around 4,000 police personnel deployed and over 250 CCTV cameras installed on and around the temple premises to ensure round-the-clock monitoring and the smooth conduct of the celebrations.
