Sir Bill Beaumont, Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire, recreated the historic opening of the park's gates, echoing the original ceremony from 1926. Local schoolchildren presented a poem and dance, culminating in a rendition of 'I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside,' followed by afternoon tea.
The festivities continued on Saturday with diverse sporting activities such as BMX and archery, alongside traditional fairground rides. Visitors also explored a makers market in the Italian Gardens, enjoyed food stalls, and participated in heritage talks and tours. The celebrations featured skateboarding, a mini-festival, art displays, and performances by Waterloo Women's Choir, a jazz band, and a DJ.
