- The new location will feature original recipes, including popular muffins and salads.

The cherished buffet chain Souplantation is set to make a comeback, with a new location scheduled to open in Orange County in 2027. This return marks a significant moment for fans who have missed the restaurant since all 97 of its establishments, including 44 in California, closed in 2020. The decision to close was attributed to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and buffet-style dining restrictions.
Since its acquisition in 2020, the company has been meticulously planning its revival. The first Souplantation debuted in San Diego in 1978, later expanding to other states under the name Sweet Tomatoes but retaining its signature recipes. Following a new acquisition by ST Three LLC, the chain has already seen success with recent openings in Arizona and Florida.
The upcoming Orange County restaurant, located in Fountain Valley, will occupy approximately 7,800 square feet. This location is expected to feature the beloved menu items that fans remember, such as the Wonton Happiness Salad, Joan's Broccoli Madness soup, and the iconic blueberry muffins, all prepared with the same classic recipes. The company also indicated that this could be the first of multiple new or returning Souplantation locations, with potential for further expansion in California and other markets.
