Geoffrey Doyle, a Solihull resident and World War Two veteran, has died at the age of 105 years and five months. Born in Liverpool in 1920 during the Spanish flu pandemic, Doyle served in the Royal Corps of Signals and participated in the invasion of Italy in 1943. He also survived a cancer diagnosis 15 years ago.
After his military service, Doyle pursued a career as a mechanical engineer. He lived and worked in both South Africa and Spain before relocating to Solihull in 1963. His family described him as a person of strong determination and conviction, known for his resilience.
Doyle's later years were supported by Age UK Solihull, who provided him with friendship and companionship after his wife Sheila passed away in 2017. They had been married for 67 years. His family and those at the charity remember him fondly for his stories and grateful nature.
