A special sensory-friendly prom is being organized for October in Solihull, aiming to provide a memorable celebration for teenage girls who have experienced school avoidance. This initiative is spearheaded by the community group Blossom & Belong, founded two years ago by Fay Joesbury. The group was created after Joesbury's own daughter faced difficulties attending school due to social struggles.
Blossom & Belong offers weekly craft, cooking, and gaming sessions, creating a safe and inclusive environment for girls who often feel isolated. Many of these girls begin to avoid school during their secondary education, missing crucial social development opportunities. The planned prom seeks to offer these teenagers a positive and affirming experience, celebrating their resilience and marking an important transition in their lives.
