A 16-year-old dachshund, found as a stray with a severe dental condition, is now seeking a new home. The dog, nicknamed Wonka, arrived at an animal shelter in Miami with a mouth full of rotten teeth, and attempts to contact his registered microchip owner were unsuccessful.
Dachshund Rescue South Florida took Wonka under their care, noting his age made the situation particularly heartbreaking. The rescue successfully fundraised for crucial dental surgery. The procedure revealed the extent of the damage, with the veterinarian describing his mouth as the worst she had ever seen. Ten teeth were either missing or had to be extracted during the extensive operation.
Following the surgery, Wonka remained at a clinic for monitoring due to his age and the extensive nature of his dental work. He is now recovering and settling into a foster home. The rescue plans to put him up for adoption soon, hoping to find him a loving environment to enjoy his remaining years.
