Megan Wotherspoon, a 38-year-old teacher from Saskatoon, has successfully completed a grueling 1,500-kilometre run traversing Saskatchewan from north to south. This significant undertaking concluded on Thursday afternoon as she reached the Canada-U.S. border near Val Marie.
Wotherspoon's motivation stemmed from honoring her mother, Louise Tokaruk, who died of leukemia at the age of 38. The run, which began on May 25 in Stony Rapids, saw Wotherspoon cover distances equivalent to 36 marathons over 31 days, often on unpaved roads.
Her journey was not only a physical challenge but also an emotional tribute. Wotherspoon reflected deeply on her mother's memory and the places she loved during the extensive hours of running. She aimed to raise $1 per kilometre for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, surpassing her initial goal and collecting over $35,000.
The trek concluded with family and friends cheering her on at the Morgan-Monchy Border Crossing. Wotherspoon expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received throughout her independent journey, highlighting the community's generosity.
