Sadie, a five-year-old Collie cross, has been adopted after spending almost three years in RSPCA kennels. She was initially rescued from a property where she was kept with 200 other animals in unsuitable conditions in Cornwall. Due to legal processes, Sadie could not be rehomed immediately.
Once cleared for adoption, she remained at the kennels for over 1,000 days, earning the nickname 'Britain's loneliest dog.' The RSPCA shared daily videos on social media to find her a home. Mabel Edge, from Devon, saw a video and, after multiple visits, decided to adopt Sadie.
Edge noted that Sadie, despite her past, was sweeter than expected and has since adapted well, even choosing to sit in the campervan's footwell on the journey home. Sadie's previous owner received a jail sentence and a lifetime ban from owning dogs. This happy ending comes as the RSPCA faces unprecedented pressure from a rise in multi-animal cases.
