The 39-year-old owner, Kelly Sites from Kansas City, Missouri, has had a soft spot for senior animals ever since she adopted two dogs in college. When they passed away, Sites made it her mission to adopt senior dogs "in their honor" to provide them with comfort and love during their twilight years.
In 2023, Sites visited Lil Paws, Big Hearts Chihuahua Rescue in Columbia, Missouri and instantly connected with Charley, who was 13 years old at the time. Despite the rescue's concerns about Charley's severe behavioral issues, he ran straight into Sites' lap and started licking her face, indicating an immediate bond.
Sites decided to adopt Charley, and since then, he has integrated seamlessly into her family. While there were some initial challenges with his behavior towards other people, Sites worked with a trainer and has helped Charley learn to trust and open up. Now, the once-wary Chihuahua enjoys going for walks, indulging in rotisserie chicken, and playing with his stuffed animals.
Charley's inspiring journey has touched many hearts, with Sites sharing his story on TikTok, where it has received over 28,800 views and 6,200 likes. The overwhelming response has encouraged Sites to continue providing Charley with the love and care he deserves in the twilight of his life.
