- He was found with seven other dogs in dire neglect.
- Charlie is now healthy and ready for adoption.

A nine-month-old lurcher puppy, known as Charlie, has been rescued from a life of severe neglect and is now healthy enough to find a permanent home. He was discovered in December at an allotment in County Durham, living in appalling conditions alongside seven other dogs. The RSPCA found the animals surrounded by faeces, rubbish, and rotting food.
Charlie was particularly emaciated and suffered from pressure sores. Following urgent veterinary treatment and a strict re-feeding program, he has made a remarkable recovery. He is now described as an affectionate dog, fascinated by home comforts like television and the fridge. The RSPCA centre caring for him recently faced closure but will remain open until June due to public support, allowing Charlie to complete his rehabilitation.
