As the rest of the country marks Dussehra on October 2nd, 2025 by burning effigies of Ravan, the village of Bisrakh in Noida observes the day quite differently. In this village, residents worship Ravan, believing the village to be his birthplace.
According to local beliefs, Bisrakh derives its name from Rishi Vishrava, the father of Ravan. The villagers consider Ravan the "son of Bisrakh" and revere him for his wisdom and devotion to Lord Shiva. They claim that Ravan, along with his brothers Kumbhkaran and Vibhishan, and sister Surpanakha, were all born in this village, which was also associated with Rishi Pulastya's ashram.
Unlike the rest of the country, the people of Bisrakh do not participate in Ramleela or burn Ravan's effigy. Instead, they celebrate Dussehra by cooking festive food and worshipping weapons. The village mahant says they mourn Ravan's death, so they refrain from burning his effigy.
