As of August 2025, the pumpkin spice phenomenon has reached new heights in the United States. According to recent research, Americans are now spending a massive $800 million per year on over 3,000 seasonal pumpkin spice products. This figure has risen sharply from $511 million in 2019.
The pumpkin spice craze is being driven primarily by younger generations. Millennials are leading the pack, spending an average of $64 per month on pumpkin spice items, followed by Gen Z at $45 per month. In contrast, Gen X spends $29 per month, and Boomers only $12. Consumers are also willing to pay a "pumpkin spice tax" of around 7.4% more for these flavored goods compared to non-pumpkin alternatives.
The enduring popularity of pumpkin spice can be attributed to its limited availability and the nostalgia it evokes. 54% of respondents in a recent survey said they look forward to pumpkin spice products every fall, while 24% cited the seasonal nature as a key motivation for purchasing them.
