The Princess of Wales commemorated International Women's Day on Sunday, March 8, 2026, with a poignant message shared on social media platform X. She lauded the "kindness, resilience and quiet strength" of women in families and communities, emphasizing their nurturing influence and role in fostering a more compassionate world. This message was paired with an image from The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, depicting a mother and daughter.
Queen Camilla also participated in the day's observances via The Royal Family's Instagram page. She shared a powerful quote from March 2024: "Let your lives be the stones that shatter glass ceilings everywhere and inspire generations to come." Her post featured photographs of remarkable women she has encountered, including Madame Gisele Pelicot, who courageously shared her experience as a survivor in France's largest rape trial.
Last year, the Princess of Wales dedicated her International Women's Day message to photographer Liz Hatton, who was undergoing treatment for a rare and incurable cancer. Kate met Liz and her mother, Vicky, expressing admiration for their resilience. Liz, who had a passion for photography, had been invited to Windsor Castle to photograph the Prince and Princess of Wales, bonding with Kate over their shared interest.
Liz Hatton passed away in November 2025 at her home in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, after a courageous battle with desmoplastic small round cell tumour. Her mother, Vicky Robayna, shared the profound bravery with which Liz faced her illness and her unwavering determination until the end. Liz's legacy of resilience continues to inspire.
