As of November 11th, 2025, the pet travel industry is experiencing a significant surge, with over half (53%) of pet owners planning to take their four-legged friends on trips this year. This growing demand is pushing hotels, airlines, and attractions to adapt their policies and offerings to accommodate this vocal group of travelers.
The latest trends reveal that pet owners are prioritizing destinations with ample hiking trails and fresh air, with 42.9% actively seeking out such locations. This preference has led to a rise in national parks and rural getaways adjusting their policies to better welcome travelers with pets. Additionally, a surprising 58% of people surveyed said they would rather vacation with their pets than with friends or family, citing the stress-free nature and constant excitement of their animal companions.
The travel industry has responded to this shift, with around 75% of hotels across various price points now welcoming pets. Major chains like Red Roof, Best Western, and DoubleTree by Hilton have expanded their pet-friendly policies to cater to the growing demand. Despite the increasing acceptance of pets on flights, car travel remains the top choice for most pet owners, with 64% preferring the freedom and convenience of the open road.
