Gazza's Comeback: Happiest in Five Years After Struggles

Paul Gascoigne, the former England footballer, has shared an emotional update on his health and well-being, stating he is "the happiest" he has been in approximately five years. Gascoigne, who has battled alcoholism and depression for decades, revealed that things are looking up for him during a recent interview.

His latest autobiography, titled 'Eight', released last October, reflects on his career and addiction troubles. Gascoigne became emotional discussing the book's impact, sharing that multiple people have reported it has saved their lives. He expressed his own emotional response, noting that if the book helps even one person, he has fulfilled his purpose.

Gascoigne now emphasizes living in the present, taking each day as it comes to manage his recovery. He acknowledged that while some days are still difficult, getting up is easier now. He aims to keep things simple and safe daily, a stark contrast to his past battles. The former midfielder found solace and purpose in his book, which he hopes will continue to help others.

Reflecting on past struggles, Gascoigne recalled hitting "rock bottom" in 1998, contemplating suicide after a relapse and the death of a close friend. Despite multiple stints in rehab and ongoing challenges, he expressed a commitment to his recovery journey. He is finding joy and contentment, focusing on his current well-being and the positive impact of his life story.
