Summary
- Parents are running the London Marathon for their son.
- Their son underwent amputation after falling critically ill.
- They are passionate about giving back to the hospital.

A couple from Bedworth is channeling their son's extraordinary fight into completing the London Marathon. Ritchie, who is now four years old, faced a life-threatening battle with sepsis at just 11 months old.
During his critical illness in 2023, Ritchie experienced a seizure and multiple cardiac arrests. Doctors made the difficult decision to amputate his arm to save his life. His parents, Libby and George, are inspired by his strength and determination.
"If he can fight through all of the challenges that have been sent his way, we can put on those running shoes and fight through 26.2 miles," they stated. Their participation in the marathon is a profound way to express their gratitude to Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Despite busy full-time jobs and caring for Ritchie, the couple has prioritized their training. Libby is a secondary school teacher, and George manages a Physical Activity Hub. Their commitment underscores their passion for supporting the hospital that provided essential care for their son.
