Oman Camels Botoxed: Beauty Pageant Scandal
25 Feb
Summary
- Twenty camels were disqualified for cosmetic procedures.
- Botox, fillers, and hormones were used for enhancements.
- This is not the first instance of disqualification for tampering.

Twenty camels faced disqualification in Oman after veterinary experts discovered they had undergone cosmetic procedures. These enhancements, aimed at improving their appearance for a beauty pageant, included Botox injections into lips and jaws, silicone wax for hump expansion, and collagen fillers to enlarge features. Muscle relaxants were also reportedly used.
Camel beauty pageants are a significant cultural event in Gulf States, celebrating Bedouin heritage and offering substantial prizes. However, this year's competition in Muscat saw a rise in such deceptive practices. The Camel Club, the organizing body, has condemned the tampering and pledged to enforce strict penalties.
This is not an isolated incident; over 40 camels were disqualified in Saudi Arabia in 2021 for similar cosmetic enhancements. Advanced technology was employed to detect the widespread tampering, indicating a persistent challenge in maintaining the integrity of these competitions.
