Kitten Rescue at O'Hare Changes Man's Travel Plans
4 Nov
Summary
- A Minnesota man found a stray kitten outside O'Hare Airport.
- He adopted the kitten, named Macanudo O'Hare, for $150.
- The rescue happened while the man was delayed due to a missed flight.

A routine stop at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport took an extraordinary turn for Minnesota resident Virgil Wiebe. Already facing a significant delay due to a missed flight, Wiebe encountered a tiny orange kitten during a smoke break outside Terminal 1. The approximately three-week-old feline, seemingly appearing from nowhere, approached him alone.
Rather than leave the vulnerable kitten behind, Wiebe decided to make it his travel companion. He procured a pet carrier and kitten formula using DoorDash, ensuring the animal's immediate needs were met. United Airlines permitted the kitten to travel with him for an additional $150 fee.
What could have been another frustrating travel moment transformed into an unexpected adoption. Wiebe named the kitten Macanudo O'Hare, a nod to the cigar he was smoking and the airport where their unique meeting occurred. The kitten, also known as Harry, now has a permanent home.
