Summary
- Seven family units in Oakland are for sale together.
- The unique co-living compound is listed between $4M and $6M.
- The community is moving to larger co-living properties nearby.

A unique co-living compound in Oakland, California, known as Radish, is now on the market for an anticipated $4 million to $6 million. This property uniquely comprises seven dwellings across four buildings on approximately 14,000 square feet of land, currently housing 20 adults and eight children. The community, which began with seven friends, has expanded over six years to include multiple families and has hosted six weddings and eight births.
Despite its success and the deep bonds formed, the community has outgrown the space and plans to move to larger co-living properties nearby, referred to as 'Radellites.' The founders, Phil Levin and Kristen Berman, are navigating a non-traditional sale process, fielding offers directly until a July 10 deadline, as there are no comparable properties on the market. Levin hopes this sale will establish 'friend compounds' as a viable mainstream housing solution.
Levin and Berman purchased the North Oakland property for $1.8 million in 2018 and invested an additional $1.6 million in construction and renovations. The compound features shared amenities like a communal building, a yard, fire pit, sauna, and hot tub. The decision to create this community stemmed from a desire to combat isolation and maintain friendships, a concept driven by Berman's expertise in behavioral science. The sale has attracted significant interest, highlighting a growing desire for shared living arrangements.
