Northeast Students Celebrate Manipuri Festival in Southern India

Last Sunday, on October 16th, 2025, the Northeast students of Alva's Education Foundation in Mangaluru celebrated the 10th edition of Ningol Chakauba, a cherished cultural festival of the Meitei community in Manipur. The event, held at the Shobhavana campus in Mijar, Moodbidri, served as a reminder of the strong bond between married women and their parental families, a core aspect of Manipuri tradition.
Alva's Education Foundation Trustee Vivek Alva emphasized the significance of the celebration, stating that Ningol Chakauba is not just a festival, but a celebration of identity. He noted that while the festival is traditionally observed in Manipur, its observance in the southern region carries special meaning, helping students remain connected to their cultural roots.
The event featured a range of cultural performances, including Matam Jagoi and Manipuri remix dance, showcasing the region's rich heritage. Additionally, outstanding students from different academic streams, including engineering, degree, physiotherapy, and PUC, were recognized for their excellence.
The celebration also included the serving of traditional Manipuri cuisines, such as Ooti, Eeromba, Kanghou, Yen Thongba, Hei Thongba, Champhut, and Shana Thongba, further immersing the attendees in the cultural experience. The event concluded with a lively performance of the Manipuri folk dance Thabal Chongba, symbolizing unity, joy, and togetherness.
