Jane Gaudreau described the profound grief following the August 2024 deaths of her sons, Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, who were killed by an alleged drunk driver in Oldmans Township, New Jersey.
Their sister, Katie, shared the immense loss, stating they not only lost the brothers but also their parents in spirit due to the tragedy.
To honor Johnny and Matthew, a 5K was organized in May 2025. The event raised over $500,000, dedicated to building an accessible playground at a special education school where Jane and her oldest daughter, Kristen, work.
This year marks the 2nd Annual Gaudreau Family 5K Run/Walk & Family Day on May 16 at Washington Lake Park in Sewell, New Jersey. Proceeds will support the Gaudreau Family Foundation, established to preserve the brothers' legacies.
Jane expressed gratitude for the support from the hockey community and beyond, noting how conversations about John and Matty have aided their healing process.
Katie highlighted the global reach of her brothers' impact, with support coming from different countries, which has been crucial for their family's healing journey.
Additional funds will be raised through a raffle and merchandise sales to further the Foundation's mission.
