Nerf Dart Blinds Woman, Leaves Permanent Eye Damage
2 Jun
Summary
- A Nerf dart strike caused severe eye pain and temporary vision loss.
- Doctors found bruising and a hole affecting the eye's drainage system.
- Permanent pupil size difference and light sensitivity remain.

A Nerf dart incident in January resulted in significant vision impairment for Sarah Bell, a 23-year-old woman.
Bell reported immediate severe pain and watering after being struck directly in the right eye. During her drive home, her vision rapidly deteriorated, becoming obscured by a white haze and extreme light sensitivity, causing panic.
Initially, emergency room doctors found no visible issues, referring her to a specialist. An ophthalmologist later diagnosed bruising inside her eyelid and a hole between the iris and cornea. This injury disrupted the eye's internal drainage and pupil dilation, with her vision measuring 20/70.
Following four months of treatment, including steroid eye drops, Bell's vision recovered to 20/20. However, the injury left permanent after-effects. One pupil is now permanently larger by 0.6 millimeters, and her injured eye remains sensitive to sunlight and certain LED lights.
