Breastfeeding Mom Confronted in Nando's
17 Feb
Summary
- A solicitor was asked to move while breastfeeding her twins.
- A couple allegedly mocked and complained about the breastfeeding mother.
- Nando's staff defended the mother and apologized for the incident.

A solicitor has recounted an upsetting experience at a Nando's restaurant in Blackpool on January 12, where she was breastfeeding her nine-month-old twins. Victoria Soltani, 29, alleged that a couple, described as resembling 'Barbie and Ken,' stared, whispered, and laughed at her while she was feeding her children. The couple reportedly complained to staff, requesting to be moved from their table. Nando's employees reportedly informed the complaining couple that they could sit where they wished.
Restaurant management later apologized to Ms. Soltani for the incident and offered to ban the couple, though she declined this offer. Ms. Soltani expressed disgust at the couple's reaction, emphasizing that she should not feel ashamed for feeding her children. She noted that the man from the couple allegedly fled to the toilet when her husband attempted to speak with them. Ms. Soltani believes the encounter reveals a lack of education surrounding public breastfeeding and shared her own past anxieties about feeding in public.
Reflecting on the event, Ms. Soltani hopes to raise awareness about the challenges mothers face when breastfeeding publicly. She mentioned a positive example in Cheltenham, where a restaurant displayed a sign welcoming breastfeeding mothers and offering free tea. This contrasts with her experience, highlighting the need for greater public understanding and support for breastfeeding.
