A poignant tribute has emerged from Stoke-on-Trent, where a father and son dedicated more than two years to transforming a classic Mini into a hearse. This heartfelt project was conceived to honor the memory of George Lonergan, who passed away in March 2023 and was a lifelong enthusiast of iconic British Mini vehicles.
The Mini Clubman, a black estate version from the 1980s, was meticulously adapted to provide ample space for a full-length coffin. This unique creation serves as a final adventure for Mini lovers, fulfilling a desire to offer a special send-off for those who cherished these vehicles.
Jack Lonergan, a game design student, collaborated with his father, Neil, an electrician, on this endeavor. The project combined their diverse skills, creating a meaningful way to continue George's legacy and passion for Minis. The car is already being booked for funerals, a development Jack believes would have made his grandfather proud.
Beyond honoring their grandfather, the project significantly deepened the father-son relationship. Jack Lonergan expressed that the shared experience has brought them much closer, finding pride in both their accomplishment and their ability to provide a unique service to others, all inspired by the man they loved.
