Kindness Vending Machine Sparks Joy Across Michigan

A unique vending machine in Michigan, dubbed 'The Kindness Challenge,' is dispensing small acts of kindness, going beyond typical offerings of snacks or drinks. Artist Andrea Zelenak conceived the idea nearly four years ago and brought it to life in 2022. For a few dollars, participants receive a mystery envelope containing a simple prompt designed to encourage a kind gesture towards others.

The project, now based in Detroit, is inspired by the butterfly effect, aiming to create a ripple of kindness within communities. The machine has been featured at various Michigan art festivals and public spaces. During a recent appearance at ArtPrize, it dispensed over 3,000 prompts before running out, demonstrating significant public engagement with its concept.
