In March 2025, Brice Otto ran the Los Angeles Marathon with the support of his family. Shortly after, a friend encouraged him to take on an even more unique challenge: the Taco Bell 50K race in Denver, Colorado.
The Taco Bell 50K, held every October to coincide with International Taco Day, is no ordinary race. Participants must hit all 10 Taco Bell stops along the course and eat a menu item from at least nine of them. By the fourth stop, runners must have consumed at least one Chalupa Supreme or Crunchwrap Supreme, and by the eighth stop, one Burrito Supreme or Nachos Bell Grande is required.
When Otto first told his friends and family about his plans, their reactions ranged from "pure confusion and disbelief to outright concern." However, once they realized he was serious, many were impressed or at least entertained by his unique endeavor.
On race day, Otto ran solo but was supported by his mom, sister, girlfriend, and college friends who came to cheer him on. He followed a strategic plan, consuming a Crunchwrap Supreme at the starting line and three items at specific stops to avoid long lines. The final Burrito Supreme at mile 23 proved to be the toughest part, but Otto persevered and crossed the finish line, celebrating with a Miller High Life at the Taco Bell drive-thru.
After a shower, Otto and his friends continued the festivities, visiting a local food hall and attending a drum 'n' bass concert. Despite the challenges, Otto's Diablo Sauce packet medal serves as a reminder that with a little humor and a dash of craziness, one can go far in life.
